For Family Radio

To the friends of Family Radio and Harold Camping:

You are precious and valuable! I know after May 21st you don't feel very good or very smart. Some of you may be hurt, others may be in denial. For some, you've sold off a lot of valuable things... you gave up everything, and it hurts.

I am your brother. I'm a Christian. We're with you. I know some of us have laughed at you, and I'm sorry about that. Please forgive us. Forgive us for giving you anything other than love and understanding.

I can understand a little bit more than many Christians because I was raised in Seventh-day Adventism (SDA). In the mid-1800s its founders followed someone who also tried to predict the date of Christ's return. When He didn't come in 1844, a lot of people were really upset and hurt. My old church (SDA) was founded by some people who were too proud to confess that they had been mistaken from the beginning. They re-interpreted their dates and started a new church on new doctrines, and to this day that church has never been able to fully recover and admit the truth about what happened.

The truth is that God loves you, just like He loved the founders of my old church (SDA). He doesn't condemn you for making a mistake. He doesn't even condemn you for trying to convince other Christians to make the same mistake with you. He loves you. He gave His Son for you on the Cross. The good news was never about getting the right information—whether the right facts about the day of His coming or the right facts about anything else—but the good news, the gospel, is that He has loved you and taken away your sins on the Cross.

The truth is that we have all been wrong. None of us could ever be "right" enough to be accepted into Heaven. And that is the very reason that He died on the Cross for us. He gave us His own "right-ness" to cover over our "wrong-ness".

He loves you, and we (Christians) love you. So you made a mistake. Welcome to the club! We have all made mistakes. Yeah, some were worse than others, but it's no use comparing. Welcome to the support group—I've made mistakes, and you've made mistakes. No use hiding it. It might still hurt, but we will be here for you. It may take some time to process and get through. But please know that God loves you and we love you. Some of us have done the very thing that you did. You're not alone. We're here for you, and God is here for you.

The greatest news in the world, the greatest news ever, is that He was there for you on the Cross. He has saved us by His own right-ness. He knew we were broken, mistaken, hurting and in pain. So He died to take away our sins and save us by His blood. Believe that He is your right-ness! He will give you rest for your soul.

I sense God heart all over what you have written here! Thanks for being obedient to the Spirit and revealing God's love to people who have walked a similar path as did our own forefathers. When we extend God's grace to others like this I believe we receive a further measure of healing ourselves!

I meant to mention how much I love the painting you chose to put here. They are such a beautiful illustration of God's heart for us and how He wants us to love one another.
